Energy Reduction Innovation (ER-I)

The term “innovation” in our Energy Reduction Innovation activity is not mainly focused on using sophisticated technology or a huge investment but it is a simple way. Energy Reduction Innovation is an activity that basically investigates its energy use situation in detail, finds out waste from every single angle, and tries to eliminate it based on daily management and the concept “Lean as much as possible”.

To implement this activity efficiently, it is necessary to utilize the tool called “ABC” which is like a mirror that clearly reflects the current conditions of each machine, electrical appliance, and various devices in the workplace into 3 categories: A, switch ON/OFF according to actual use, B, always switch ON and switch OFF only on holidays, and C, always switch ON 24/7. The process after that is trying to level up it from C to B, or C to A as much as possible. Consequently, this activity helps directly reduce wastage, energy consumption, and CO2 emissions.

Example of ABC Activity best practices

  • Reducing water pump running time (C > A) by The Nawaloha Industry Co., Ltd.

Relentless trials to find out the good condition to stop the water pump after powering off the furnace coil improved the operation time of the cooling water pump by reducing 16 hours per week from powering on without stopping all 24 hours for 7 days. It helps reduce energy by 6,160 kWh and 2.92 tons CO2e per month without any investment.

  • Stopping dust collector on break time (B > A) by EXEDY Friction Material Co., Ltd.

Before improvement, 9 units of dust collector continuously run even on break time because the outlet will be clogged after stop. By brainstorming and trialing several times, finally, the solution to adjust the frequency of dust scooping from the machine can be found. Consequently, each month, the energy of 3,467 kWh and 1.73 tons of CO2e can be reduced without any investment.
